What is AME?
In order to maintain the safety of aircraft, passengers, cargos aircraft maintenance engineering is required. This is one of the most advanced engineering fields. Aircraft Maintenance Engineers are the licensed engineers, such licenses are issued by the competent authority of civil aviation industry of the country. In India this competent authority is Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) under ministry of civil aviation. International Civil Aviation Industry is governed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Licensed aircraft maintenance engineers are recognized by the ICAO.
The job and responsibility of the AMEs are to ensure the flight safety for the passengers, cargos, crews while carrying out the routine inspection, maintenance, repair, overhaul, snag analysis its rectification. The field of aircraft maintenance engineering and its techniques is more based on computer based technology for maintenance activity, preventive maintenance which increases the system reliability and safety standardization. A predictive maintenance of aircraft, engine, parts and components by the Aircraft Maintenance Engineers also enhanced the safety standards with the prediction of system failure, its causes before it leads to the safety hazards.
Aircraft Maintenance Engineer is the sole responsible person for the maintenance and overhaul of Aircraft, Aero engines, Instruments, Electrical and Radio equipment’s and their accessories. AME issues the Certificate of Release to Service (CRS) for airworthiness of the Aircraft and its associate parts after daily maintenance activity.
